This spring, relax and enjoy nature right here in Ocean Springs. There are plenty of activities for you at Gulf Islands National Seashore Davis Bayou, which is open everyday from sunrise to sunset. A great space to hike, bike, saltwater fish, bird watch, and picnic.

If you haven’t been to Davis Bayou in a while, don’t be fooled by the Park Road entrance which is under construction for a new bicycle and pedestrian path project. The park is fully open. Drivers take a short detour on Knapp Road to VFW Road for easy entrance.

4 Amazing Park Perks to take advantage of at Davis Bayou;

  1. Free small-craft and kayak launch, newly rebuilt, the boat launch offers access to the bayou water which leads you into the Mississippi Sound. There is ample free-parking for trucks and trailers. Please, only use marked parking spots, it allows for more visitors to fit in the lot.
  2. Saltwater fishing at many locations across the park can be fun. With a Mississippi Saltwater Fishing License you can catch fish and crabs along the shore. The fishing pier is the perfect place to reel them in. Plus, there are clean outdoor restrooms for your convenience across the park.
  3. Bring friends and family for a picnic, use one of the five pavilion locations. These spacious pavilions offer cover, picnic tables, restrooms and several have electricity. Pavilions can be reserved for private events, but a few are always available on a first-come basis. Pack a lunch, some bug spray and relax.
  4. Want to stay overnight? Over 50 sites are available for RV’s and tent campers. The sites are spread out, there are plenty of trees and a Park Ranger on-site is there to make for a convenient camping experience. There are discounts for Seniors and Active Military, go on-line for more details at www.recreation.gov. Advanced reservations are required.
  5. On any given day you’ll find locals and out-of-towners enjoying the park. Especially at the viewing stations on Robert McGee Road, these designated areas provide the perfect location to experience wildlife such as large and small alligators, snakes, turtles and many species of birds. Always remember, never feed wild animals for your safety and the safety of the animals.
