The City of Pascagoula has been named one of the cheapest cities for renters in America.
In a recent study by Apartment Guide, Pascagoula came in at #4 with an average one-bedroom rent price of $539.
One of the more desirable cities featured, Pascagoula is the only beach town to find itself on the list.
“Aside from having one of the most affordable rental rates in the country, Pascagoula’s location makes it a desirable place to live,” senior managing editor of Apartment Guide Brian Carberry said. “Among our top 10 list, it’s the only city that’s located on the ocean or the Gulf in this case. While Pascagoula may not be the tourist destination of Gulfport or Biloxi, you have access to the same water with a fraction of the crowds or prices.”
Another advantageous feature of Pascagoula highlighted in the study was the fact that the city has a lot of work opportunities, thanks to both the energy and shipbuilding industries.
Ingalls Shipbuilding is the largest supplier of U.S. Navy surface combatants, employing over 11,500 people, while Chevron Pascagoula Refinery has nearly 2,000 employees after a recent $150 million expansion.
