Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College held a groundbreaking ceremony for renovations and additions to the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Building at the Jackson County Campus in February, expanding the facility to a total of 91,150 square feet.
The new facility will house a variety of science, technology, engineering and mathematics programs, allowing for growth of existing technology programs and providing space for new programs.
“The college’s industry partners in Jackson County need well-trained employees prepared to work in specific trade and career paths,” said Dr. Mary S. Graham, MGCCC president. “The new STEM facility will allow us to expand our excellent educational opportunities at the campus, providing our partners with an outstanding workforce and offering Jackson County residents the training they need to attain high-paying, in-demand jobs.”
The STEM Building will include a career-tech lab, 21 classrooms, two large classrooms, two computer labs, two collaboration spaces, nine study rooms and 30 faculty offices. Existing square footage, which is being completely renovated, is 50,990 square feet.
The facility is slated for completion in spring 2020.
