Over the years, employees at the Jackson County Tax Collector’s Office have traditionally dressed up for Halloween. This year, they are continuing that tradition, but with a twist – they will be dressing up as animals to bring awareness to the needs at the Jackson County Animal Shelter located in Gautier.

Kevin Miller and his staff acknowledge the supply shortage at the shelter, and as a way to help out, they are sponsoring this event. They are asking for items such as dry dog and cat food, and cleaning supplies such as bleach, paper towels, and Dawn dish soap. A full list of other needed items can be found here.

Too many animals are at the shelter for various reasons, some of which are not being spayed or neutered, not being properly secured or chipped, or being abandoned because an owner loses interest. The “lucky” ones end up at the shelter, and, sadly, too many are looking for forever homes.

It’s challenging for the shelter to provide the care and maintenance of these animals without proper supplies which is why donation drives such as this are important and much appreciated.

Donations can be dropped off on Tuesday, October 31, between 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at either county location: in Pascagoula at 2915 Canty Street and at the suboffice in Ocean Springs at 6912 Washington Avenue.
